It is located out at Sturkie on the road to Lafayette on CO Rd 14. It has been in use since the early 1990’s and have been the home for the ladies before it became the home for the men. The men start and finish their program at this facility as their residential quarters. During the day the men go to His Place Downtown for class and meals.
The His Place Farm is a 3-story house that sleeps 15 men, a dorm that houses an additional 7 men, 4 FEMA trailers that is used for staff and guest housing and sits on 43 acres off a dirt road in Chambers County. When men come to our program they come to the farm for the first 9 months. The farm is a quiet, safe place to begin their healing. At times it has been too quiet. There wasn’t much to do and “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop”. So we’ve been working to make the farm, more of a farm. We have a garden to grow vegetables for His Place and Hosanna Home. We serve 150 meals a day. That’s a lot of vegetables. We’re expanding our garden to grow more vegetables. Working on the garden also provides our men with plenty of life lessons. I am always reminding them that sins, like weeds in the garden grow with ease. The work is getting rid of them, weeds and sin. Some of our best learning comes while we’re living.
We’ve also fenced 4.5 acres and started working on a pasture. There are plenty of rocks to get out before we can grow good grass. We’ve got two donkeys in the field, several cows and two horses.
The Auburn University Poultry Science Department built a chicken coop and run for us and those chickens provide us 50-60 eggs a day. Our men love omelets and our ladies love to bake. Eggs are good. The lessons they’ll learn from the chickens will be even better. Jesus once said, “O, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that kill the prophets and stone them which are sent unto you, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not.” (Matthew 23:37)
We need equipment, tools, and finances. We have a great need for a large tractor. We need all types of farming tools and hardware. We need a good farm truck. We’re not turning away cows, chickens pigs, or even a lama or alpaca.
Thanks for your love, prayers, and support. To God be the glory, great things he hath done, and even now is doing.
